Some sound editors, like Audacity from SoundForge can reduce static noise, but the disadvantage is that it deforms the audio. Therefore, it is best to quelch static before it hits the sound card, so to speak. The most common problem is the microphone or headset related to its surroundings.
If you are recording sound next to a whirling hard drive or noisy computer, you will produce an audio that appears to have a lot of static but it actually is primarily environmental sound. It is important to make that distinction because static and environmental sound needs to be treated differently. If you have overwhelming static, it can have 3 main causes, presuming that the equipment is not defect:.
You did not push the jack far enough into the plug hole. Do not force but gently push it further in. The jack or plug is not properly connected. You perhaps may have plugged the mic jack into the wrong plughole. Check that and if it is difficult to read which plug hole is which, use a torch light to read the icons above the plug holes. If none of the above, it probably has to do with the a wrong setting in the software application you are using to record sound.
If your mic or headset has a mini jack, you will get static from all over the place.
Why do I have extreme static on my microphone?
As a result, it picks up static from your computer, your body, electrical equipment, etc…. One solution is to use a microphone or headset with USB connection. USB connections do not deteriorate as easily as mini jack connections, thus reducing static considerably. Another source of static can be a spare bulb or neon light, especially when recording with a camcorder.

Try use a regular bulb and see if it makes a difference. Close by wireless phone sets and mobile phones can generate static too. Try to turn them off while recording and hear if it makes a difference. I have the same exact issue, my computer had an update the night prior to this happening, I'm not sure if its related to this or if the xbox app is acting up again. I cant be in a party with any of my friends and they say it sounds like a loud crackling noise. I fixed mine by going into the advanced tab in the microphones properties and changing the format from the default. Thank you for telling me this :D but what i was doing to get around this was connectin my controller to the pc and havi g my mic plugged in to the controller and it worked for party and games at the same time.

It's so loud, I can hear it through their headphones but when i go into the mics properties menu, it isn't making a sound despite me still hearing it through their headsets.

ChrisBeaudette Created on March 28, All the hardware is brand new. When I record, there's static. When I talk to friends on Skype, there's static. When I stream live, there's static. It doesn't matter what microphone I use; a cheap one or an expensive one, there's just always constant static.
It sound like a constant humming or hissing sound, and it won't stop. I know the issue is not the microphone itself, because I tested the mic my laptop and it's perfect, static-free. Also, I even recorded the mic input on my desktop PC with no microphone even connect at all, and it has the same exact static, so it can't be the microphone at fault.
I've also updated my Realtek HD Audio sound drivers to the most recent, but still no luck. I've heard that some times grounding can be an issue, but it's plugged into a grounded outlet socket I even tried it plugged into a surge protector, but no luck. The only thing I can think of, is that my PSU is kind of old.

If you dialed in with your telephone but GoToWebinar thinks you are using Computer mode, then it is probably picking up your audio from both sources!
Try hanging up and dialing in again. An unknown issue might have occurred when you connected to the audio conference. Try dialing in again to see if the connection is better.

It doesn't matter if I use the Notebook's microphone or my headset microphone, there is static. It is not a constant static but only when I talk. Do I continue to let it update? My wifi is fine. This reminds me that lately my Windows Updates has also been stuck at a certain stage and couldn't update. Could this be related? What is your Envy x?
But what is your machine? There are dozens and few generations of machines called Envy x Which file should I download from Realtek? I have the same exact problem as Kahamama.
How do I do a clean install of the drivers? I never saw the answer to that question in this thread! I've googled it but it seems like it gets into some programming stuff you have to know how to do by going through the old-fashioned C: prompt, and I'm nervous to screw something up.
I just tried to fix my audio and it worked because every time I recorded something it had static with my voice. I went to the device manager, scrolled to video, audio, and game controllers. Then I uninstalled two realtek apps I had. I did not restart my laptop.
