Through a comparative analysis of a specifically designed corpus of travel articles originally written in English namely the TourEC-Tourism English Corpus and a corpus of tourist texts translated from a variety of languages into English namely the T-TourEC — Translational Tourism English Corpusthe study will investigate a selection of collocates, concordances and keywords related to the description and representation of tourist settings in both corpora.

The aim will be that of identifying differences, aspects or practices to be potentially improved that characterize the translated language of tourism with respect to tourist texts originally written in English. Results will show that the discursive patterns of translated texts differ from the stylistic strategies typically employed in native English for the linguistic representation of landscape and settings due to phenomena of translation universals, and that these differences may affect the relating communicative functions, properties and persuasive effects of tourist promotional discourse.

A parallel corpus consisting of the English translations of modern and contemporary Chinese novels is introduced and used as the major context for the research. Both the parallel model and the comparable model are employed and a multiple-complex model of comparison is proposed.

The research model, both quantitative and qualitative, is duplicable within other language pairs. Apart from the basics of corpus building, readers may notice that literary texts offer an ideal context for stylistic research and a parallel corpus of literary texts may provide various observations to the style in translation. In this book, readers may find a close interaction between translation theory and practice.

Tables and figures are used to help the argumentation. The book will be of interest to postgraduate students, teachers and professionals who are interested in corpus-based translation studies and stylistics.

This two-day conference, organised in association with Bandung: Journal of the Global Southserves as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange on the latest research in this area.

Suggested themes include but are not restricted to:. It is hoped that through this conference, participants can gain inspiration from scholars of different disciplines and build up platforms for future collaboration and discussion. The language of the conference is English.

DOI: This article presents a corpus-based analysis of stance in a specialized corpus of annual and corporate social responsibility CSR reports. It investigates how companies use stance expressions to construct and promote a positive corporate identity in order to gain the trust of the stakeholder groups that these texts target.
